I was coaching an executive at a client company, when I heard myself unexpectedly say the following and had to write it down quickly to avoid forgetting:

“The fewer dead bodies you leave on the road to your success,
the fewer ghosts will haunt your future.”

Clearly, you would never kill to win, nor would you use someone’s literal head as a stairstep to your success. However, be careful, cautious and cognizant. 1) Dead bodies can be produced either intentionally or accidentally, and 2) Literal death is only one type; there is also the figurative or metaphorical kind—people die of shame, a broken heart, discouragement and the like.

In all your personal hopes, aspirations and ambitions, pursue the kind of success that has sustainable, objective worth—the kind that makes others better, serves others and delivers value that goes far beyond the benefit of you and your family. Help the needy. Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought to think. As much as is in your power, keep peace with all mankind.

QUESTIONS:

How do you avoid unintentional dead bodies in the road? Some people are just extra sensitive and get hurt without your intending harm. And how do you seek to please everyone without standing for nothing? Are dead bodies really avoidable?
