Life purpose is a term that floats around quite liberally. When life coaches, speakers and other empowerment experts talk of life purpose, they often begin by instructing listeners to answer questions designed to reveal their innermost desires.
While much attention is paid to this part of the process, little is paid to the specifics of what is needed to actually fulfill a life purpose instead of just theorize, write and talk about it.
For certain, it is important to ask yourself life changing questions if you haven’t already decided upon a life purpose, but what if you have? What steps can you take now to go from talking about your life purpose to actually fulfilling it?
The first step is to break the purpose down into a series of goals and break that down further into a series of strategies.
You can go from dreaming to doing by plotting a road map that will lead you to your greatest accomplishments.
The second step is equally important, embracing the mindset you need to succeed. Prepare yourself for a long, uphill (but strangely enjoyable) battle as the things we want most lay on the peak of a steep mountain not in the low lying valleys.
You can find a great deal of advice, techniques and strategies with the many personal development books created by those who live to empower others.
The third step is to take action; every journey begins with a step. When you have set your plans and your mind to a goal you must achieve, there is no substitute for action.
In my first book, If Caterpillars Can Fly, So Can I, I wrote the following, “Success is a decision followed by massive action.” This is true no matter what the goal.
If you are to succeed in fulfilling your life purpose, you must take consistent, persistent action against a clearly defined outcome you desire.
